Obituary for Mark Loewen

Mark Loewen, age 69, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at his home near Lime Springs, Iowa.

Mark K. Loewen was born to Peter and Edna (Koehn) Loewen on Nov. 12 1950, at Cottage Grove Oregon. He peacefully passed away at home on October 25, 2020, at the age of 69 years.

Mark loved his boyhood days in the foothills of Oregon. In 1958 the family moved to Georgia where they spent the next 12 years in dairy and farming. He gave his heart to God at a young age, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on Jan. 27 1963, by Minister Reno Hibner, in Louisville, GA. He loved the Lord and the Church, remaining faithful to his vows.

In 1970 the family moved to Brazil, where Mark enjoyed the many challenges of pioneering and learning a new language. Shortly after moving, he lost his dad in a tragic accident.

On January 19, 1975 he was married to me, Glenda Hibner, by my father, Min. Reno Hibner. Mark and I enjoyed 45 short years together. We were blessed with three children.

We had the privilege of starting the tract work in Brazil, spending the first four years of our married life in the town of Rio Verde, Goias. He thoroughly enjoyed this work.

On July 28, 1980, he was ordained to the ministry in the Monte Alegre Congregation, by Min, Harry Wenger. Soon after this, he was asked to lead the fledgling church in Rio Verde. Mark loved the Brazilian people, and became one with them.

Dads desire to know and understand the voice of the Spirit, and to then follow in faith was an inspiration to his family many times.

Throughout life, Dad’s love for singing blessed those around him. He didn’t need a special reason to pick up a book and have his friends and family join in. We all sang better when he was a part of the group.

Due to the need for more medical help for our youngest son, we spent time at various places in the US, including 2 yrs spent in the mission in Oroville CA. In 2005, we moved to Lime Springs, Iowa. Dad was welcomed by the congregation and served faithfully in the work of the Church.

In 2004, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer, but after surgery, continued to enjoy relatively good health, until 2018. Dad wished much to be able to stay with the family, but realized a few months ago that this was not to be. He graciously accepted, leaving it all in God’s hands.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his loving wife, Glenda; two sons, Milferd and wife Sandra, grandchildren, Trenton, Dalyn, Alyssa, Jamin, Lime Springs, IA; Victor, Rochester, MN; one daughter, Marcia and husband Hallis Silva, grandchildren, Thalles and wife Deb, Lennis, Lonny, and one great-grandchild, Jasper; Porto Nacional, Tocantins.
