Obituary for Mae Baker

Mae Baker, age 80, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the Gunderson Harmony Care Center in Harmony, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Harmony.  Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.  Burial will take place later that afternoon at Mount Hope Cemetery in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin.

Mae Arlene Baker was born on April 15, 1939 in Beaver, WI.  She was the daughter of Irving and Ave (Olson) Hall.  She attended Keokuk Community College where she graduated as a registered nurse.  The majority of her nursing career was spent as a traveling nurse, taking care of sick children in their homes.

On September 26, 1959 she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Baker.  To this union two children were born, Deborah and Robert.  Together they raised their family in the Midwest, later settling in Harmony in 2004.

Bill and Mae ran an auction barn together.  Mae took on the role of bookkeeper, clerk and even made all the food for the concession stand.  As the years went by, they began to enjoy renting a booth in several antique stores to sell antique glassware that they had collected.

Mae was a devote Christian and longtime member of the Assembly of God Church in Rochester, Minnesota.  She shared her love for the Bible with those at the Midwest Mission in Cresco, Iowa.  She led Bible studies, donated groceries and cared for the needs of those living at the Mission.  She also enjoyed being part of a ladies card club in Harmony, where they played 500.

Mae’s most precious role was that of a mother and grandmother.  She loved her family and will be missed greatly by those that she leaves behind.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Crutchfield of Miami, OK and four grandchildren; Bobby Baker Jr., Dillon Ball, Candice Ball and Tyler (Amanda) Baker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William,  a son Robert Baker, and two brothers, Wayne and Mel Hall.
