Deloris I. Fehr, 82, of McIntire, Iowa, passed away at home, surrounded by family members on Saturday morning, December 26, 2020.
Visitation will be held at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. The private family service will be followed by interment; Deloris will be laid to rest in the family plot in Gnagy Cemetery, Dysart, Iowa.
Deloris Irene McBride was born July 5, 1938, in Truesdale, (Buena Vista County) Iowa, to Orvis and Alice (Lamm) McBride, in the family home. She attended Truesdale Community School, graduating with the Class of 1956. She married Melvin Theodore Schossow on July 14, 1958 at the Varina Methodist Church. They made their home on Melvin’s family farm near Varina, Iowa for a short time and then moved to her home town of Truesdale. They were blessed with five children: Valorie, Mary, Alice, Melvin Theodore Schossow Jr., affectionately called Johnny, and Milton.
She later married Peter Michael Fehr on April 8, 1979 at Niagara Cave in rural Harmony, Minnesota. They lived for a few years at Lake Mills, Iowa, where their daughter SuAnn was born. They then moved to rural McIntire where they resided on Pete’s farm. During this time Peter was a teacher; after retiring he worked construction until finally retiring for good. Together Deloris and Pete raised their children and also two granddaughters.
Deloris loved being outdoors where she could commune with nature, especially watching the birds at the many bird feeders. While her health allowed, she was an avid preserver and canner of almost anything edible. She loved cooking, baking and taking care of each and every one of her children. She loved to paint and crochet and won many ribbons for the dolls she made. She was an excellent seamstress and produced beautiful dresses, shirts, blouses and whatever else was needed by her family. She and Peter loved to dance, especially square dancing; Deloris got children ready for school each morning for 52 consecutive years!  She was a loyal and dedicated member of the McIntire United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 41 years, Peter; her children: Valorie Ensley of McIntire, Mary and her husband Robert Beal of Storm Lake, IA; Alice and her husband John Brudvig of Scarville, IA; Daniel Fehr of Osage, IA, Melinda Fehr Oakes and her special friend Michael Ott of Ottawa, KS; Milton of Las Vegas, NV; SuAnn Becton of Moore, OK; Shalmarie and her husband Greg Zillgitt of Grafton, IA and Morgan Becton of Moore, OK. Also there are more than 20 grandchildren and more than 20 great-grandchildren; her sister, Priscilla Boardman of Cherokee, IA; many nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
Deloris was preceded in death by Melvin Schossow, her parents, and her beloved son, Johnny, as well as two brothers, Dwain and Kenneth McBride and her son-in-law, Steve Ensley.
