Obituary for Guy Junior Soland

Guy Junior Soland, 77, of Preston, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse, Wis., after a brief illness.

Guy was born April 19, 1933 to Guy T. Soland and Nora (Sanden) Soland in Amherst Township in Fillmore County on a farm near Henrytown.

He was baptized at Henrytown Lutheran Church in 1933 and confirmed at Greenfield Lutheran Church in 1947. He moved to the Elton farm north of Harmony and attended the Harmony Elementary and High School. He entered the U.S. Marines on January 16, 1952 with boot camp and infantry training at San Diego, Calif., and Oceanside, Calif. He went overseas to Korea in May of 1953 with the Fox Company 2nd Battalion 7th Marine Division. After the cease-fire, he was with the Provisional DMZ Police Company. He returned to the U.S. in 1954 and separated from the service in January 16, 1955.

After he got out of the service he worked on a farm, did construction and painting until April 1957, when he started working at Jerry\'s Body Shop in Preston. He worked there for 27 years and then he worked for the Fillmore County Highway Department for 11 years.

Guy married Patricia A. Hovey on May 28,1960 at Saetersdal Lutheran Church, York Township in Fillmore County. They have three children.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, attending Marine Corps reunions, making wine, writing letters to friends, reading and spending time with his family and friends at the cabin.

His parents and two brothers, LuVerne Soland and Gerald Soland, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Soland; one son, LuVerne (Carol) Soland of Preston; two daughters, Linda (Mike) Adler of Chatfield and Lisa (Doug) Anderson of Eagan, Minn.; eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Audrey Teslow of Harmony, Ilene Anderson of Harmony, Darleen (LeRoy) Johnson of Peterson, and Esther Hanlon of Harmony; and many nieces and nephews.

Cemetery:
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation:
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, MN, and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Service:
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Canton, MN.
