<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_114700.jpg" alt="Melba Evelyn Robinson" />Melba Evelyn Robinson, 97, of Cresco, Iowa, died Monday, February 6, 2012, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, after a brief stay.


She was born September 13, 1914, on a farm in rural Chickasaw County, Iowa, to Hannah (Natvig) and Theodore Vaala.  She attended rural schools and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1932.  With Normal Training Prep, she taught at Chickasaw County One Room Schoolhouses from 1932 to 1938, when she married Alfred H. “Fritz” Robinson on November 1, 1938, at the Saude Lutheran Church.  They worked together in the dairy business in New Hampton and Jefferson.  After Fritz’s death in 1955, she enrolled at the Iowa State Teachers College for two years and also did student teaching at the Iowa State Teachers College campus school.  She was then hired as a second grade teacher at Cresco Community Schools where she taught from 1957 to 1981.  She enjoyed her students and many student-teachers from Luther, Iowa, UNI and Iowa State. 


Melba is survived by one daughter, Marcia A. (Ralph) Congdon of Davenport; two grandsons, Craig R. Congdon of Denver, CO and Todd M. Congdon of Bettendorf, IA; compassionate caregiver, Jean Eldridge of Cresco; nephews, niece, grandnephew and grandnieces.


She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orin and Harris Vaala; two sisters Gladys Vaala and Lillian (Dave) Henry.


Melba was a member of CQ (PEO), Clio Club, Loafers Club (New Hampton), Delta Kappa Gamma, and church circles.  She enjoyed traveling to Norway, Hawaii and Mexico.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_114714.jpg" alt="Doris McIntire" />Doris L. McIntire, 84, of Cresco, IA passed away at the Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA on Monday, February 6, 2012.   

Doris Lou McIntire was born on June 20, 1927 on a farm near Cresco, IA.  She was the daughter of Harry and Mattie McIntire.  The family moved to Cresco and that is where Doris attended grade school and high school.  She attended and graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College, now known as UNI.  In 1950 she began her working career at Northwest Airlines from which she retired in 1982.  She moved back to Cresco and for a couple of years ran a furniture finishing business, then retired again.  She then began to enjoy the pleasures of retirement.  

She was preceded in death by her mother, her father, and her brother Jim, who was killed in WWII.

<title>Thomas Bouska [01/15/1922 - 02/05/2012] </title>

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_114660.jpg" alt="Thomas Bouska" />Lt. Col. (retired) Thomas E. Bouska, age 90, died February 5, 2012, at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa.  

He was born in Cresco, Iowa, and graduated from Cresco High School, after which he worked at the Cresco Greenhouse until he was inducted into the US Army in 1943.  He completed pre-flight and advanced bombardier training at Santa Ana and Victorville, California.  While in California, he married Helen M. Sobolik, of Cresco, in May 1944.  He flew fifty-one missions with the 15th Air Force, 450th Bomb Group, as a B-24 bombardier over Europe, surviving several hits to his planes and multiple forced or crash landings.  For this and later service, he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with five bronze stars, two unit citations, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross, the latter “for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against the enemy….”

After World War II, Tom and Helen moved back to Cresco, where Tom worked as a plumber and volunteered for the Cresco Fire Department until he was recalled into the US Air Force for the Korean Conflict, where he was a bombardier on a B-29 crew based in Japan.   Deciding to stay in the military, the couple lived at multiple Air Force bases around the country while he served as an electronic  countermeasures (ECM) officer on various crews, and later as coordinator of civilian aircraft during the Cuban Missile Crisis, part of an airbase reorganization team, and finally as commander of the office in charge of the Air Force nuclear control codes.   Tom and Helen both retired in 1969 and returned to live in Cresco, building a house along the Upper Iowa River in Florenceville and then the “round” house in town.   He also built or re-built several other houses around Cresco, built grandfather clocks for many local people, and created beautiful walnut furniture that Helen designed.  Tom served on the Cresco City Council, and was a long-time member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Cresco Country Club, and Notre Dame (Assumption) parish.  The couple also spent twenty-five winters in Tucson, Arizona.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Amy S. Bouska, of Cresco; his brother, Francis (Bus) Bouska, of Ocala, Florida; four nieces, Kay Eckerman, Terry Barco, Carolen Bailey, and Barbara Stone; and a nephew, David Billmyer.  

He was pre-deceased by Helen M. Bouska, his wife of 67 years; his parents, Edward and Susan (Lusson) Bouska, of Cresco, Iowa; his sisters, Wilma Weinkauf and Rose Billmyer; and a niece, Linda Dolan.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_114660.jpg" alt="Thomas Bouska" />Gordon Oliver Watros, 83, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa.  


Gordon was born on April 22, 1928 in Albert Lea, MN.  Gordon proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Army.  He was united in marriage to Phyllis Herold on November 13, 1954.  Gordon served in law enforcement for nearly 30 years. 

 
After retirement, Gordon moved to Clear Lake, where he volunteered as a probation officer through AARP.


He is survived by his son, Lon Watros, daughters, Mary (Steve) Mrdjenovich, Susann Carr, Cynthia (Jim) Peterson, Janenne (Tim) O’Donnell, Jennifer (Jeff) Ginapp, 15 grandchildren, Nicole (Matt), Heather (Jed), Jessica (Tom), Justin, Christopher, Ryan (Kayla), Andrew, Jeremy (Erin), Ashley (Tony), Cody, Megan, Zachary (Liz), Maranda, Leah, Jake (Dana), and 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way.


He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, his sister Joyce, and his parents.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_113901.jpg" alt="Lois Alfson" />Lois M. Alfson, 83, of Harmony, MN passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, MN. 

Lois was born in Harmony, MN to Tracy and Mabel Yeoman on February 19, 1928.  She married Morris Alfson, Sr. in Harmony, MN on April 4, 1945.  Lois lived in Harmony most of her life, where she enjoyed bowling, golfing, knitting, crocheting, and riding her horses.  She worked for 22 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Preston and then Rochester.

She is survived by her sons, Morris and Dennis (Gayle), and daughter, Lynell Shanks, all of Harmony, MN, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, an infant daughter Virginia, three brothers and two sisters.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_113901.jpg" alt="Lois Alfson" />Arthur Carl Fred Prinz, 84, of Lime Springs, Iowa, passed away January 24, 2012, at the Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa.


He was born on May 31, 1927, in rural Maple Leaf, Iowa, to Otto and Etha (Matthias) Prinz.  Arthur was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maple Leaf.  He attended rural schools there. 


Arthur farmed the family farm.  He was united in marriage to Geneva Roesler in March of 1955.  They were later divorced.


Arthur was drafted into the United States Army as a private in January of 1955.  He was honorably discharged with a rank of private first class in December of 1956.  Arthur continued farming following his discharge in 1956 and retired at the age of 66 after forty-four years.


Arthur is survived by his one sister Velma Kutzbach of Elma, Iowa, his former wife Geneva Prinz of Lime Springs, Iowa, twelve nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces  and nephews.  


He was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Etha and one sister Verona Bartels.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_113901.jpg" alt="Lois Alfson" />Earl Roy Grace, 88, formerly of Riceville, passed away at Riceville Family Care and Therapy Center on Friday, January 20, 2012.
 

Earl Grace, son of Roy and Laura Mae Funte Grace, was born on the family farm in Mitchell County near Riceville on March 11, 1923. He attended local schools and graduated from the McIntire public school system in 1940. He served his country from Nov. 21, 1942 to Feb. 26, 1946. He was united in marriage to Virginia Kristiansen on Oct. 18, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa. Earl farmed in McIntire - Riceville area. He worked for the US postal service from 1967 - 1985 in the Decorah post office. He was a member of the McIntire Methodist church, American Legion for 60 years, and the Masonic Lodge for 66 years. He enjoyed dancing, golfing, woodworking, and feeding the birds.
 

Survivors include his wife Virginia of LeRoy, MN; a daughter Laura (Carroll) Armstrong of Harmony, MN; a daughter Mary Grace and her friend Suzanne Schmidt of Mason City, IA and a son Douglas (Janice) Grace of Winston-Salem, NC; a granddaughter Mary Beth (Tim) Ostrom and a future great grandson Graysen of Harmony, MN; a brother Harley (Phyllis) Grace of Hudson, FL; a brother-in-law Duane Lockie of Riceville, IA, a special great niece Kristian Schofield of Riceville, IA and many nieces and nephews.
 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth Lockie.

He was born on May 17, 1934, in Lime Springs, Iowa, to Herbert and Bertha (Payne) Fisher. 

 
Arthur farmed his entire life. 


Arthur is survived by his sister Ethel Chick of Cresco, Iowa, sister Evelyn (Carl) Keich of California, sister-in-law Mary Ann Fisher of Ionia, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Bertha, brothers Leo Fisher and Charles Fisher and brother-in-laws Alfred Bastian and Donald Chick.


The Lindstrom Funeral Home of Cresco is in charge of arrangements.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="http://lindstromfuneralhomes.com/components/comObituaries/obituarythumbnails/95_112561.jpg" alt="Paul Haugerud" />Paul Edward Haugerud, 41, of Harmony, MN, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012.

Paul was born April 16, 1970 in Washington D.C.  When he was eight years old he moved with his family to Minnesota where he grew up and graduated from Harmony High School in 1988.  He enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Mauna Kea in Concord, California.   He was deployed on two tours which took him to many countries around the world.  In 1992 he married Michelle, and in 1994 when his service  ended, they moved to Harmony, Minnesota with their children.  He was self employed in the paint and drywall business and in 2002 he and his wife purchased the JEM Movie Theatre where they enjoyed showing movies and working with their children.  He also helped at Wheelers with roller skating and was the Commander of the Harmony American Legion.  He and Michelle just celebrated their twenty year wedding anniversary. 

Paul had many friends which he enjoyed visiting with and making them laugh. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and hunting and working on small engines.    He really loved watching the show American Pickers with Peter and talking about history with him.  Paul was just learning to fly and was looking forward to one day getting his pilots license.  He loved to help others and had a very generous heart. 

Paul is survived by his wife Michelle, children Peter, Julia, Sierra, Mary, Danielle (John) Flicek, and Kenneth, grandchildren Marshall and Lyla, parents Mary and Mark, sister Amber (Ben), brothers Howard (Angie), Mark, Michael and Luke, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
